Something To Think About: Exercise IS Medicine

In today’s society medication in the form of a pill or shot is the sole answer to any health issues at hand. However, I believe what people need to know is that exercise works in curing medical concerns just as much as a pill or vaccine can if not more!

Exercise helps the brain through improving memory, self-esteem and sex life, it eases moderate depression and elevates mood; helps the heart through clearing artery-clogging plaque; helps the lungs through improving breathing and lung capacity; helps the spine through reliving back pains, arthritis, and improves posture; and overall, exercise improves sleep, reduces stress, boosts the immune system, increases physical stamina, improves balance and coordination, and increases nutrient, oxygen and blood flow.

With exercise doing nothing more than improving the body for the better, it is a healthy alternative compared to a chemically produced pill and can be looked at as a vaccine to prevent chronic disease and premature death.

The impact on a person’s health related to exercise has been documented and the results demonstrate that exercise does favorably impact how patients perceive their quality of life.

Research and Studies that have Proved Exercise is a Better Solution

1.         A research study involving breast cancer patients found that early intervention exercise programs, whether home-based or group-oriented, increased how the women perceived their quality of life. The score improved between 6 and 12 months after diagnosis.

2.         In an exercise and depression study that compared exercise alone, medication alone, and exercise plus medication found lasting improvements after 6 months in participants who had exercises without medication. When participants continued to exercise the on going improvement was even greater, this study concluded that medication may produce a quicker relief but exercise yields more long-term benefits.

3.         Several recently published clinical studies have shown that people with diabetes who exercise for at least one-half-hour a day have better glucose control and a much lower rick of complications from cardiovascular disease than those who do not exercise.
