When Lebron James visited New York on Friday to play the Knicks, it brought up all the questions he’s been asked numerous times about his plans for next year.
Lebron is going to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2009 season, and all rumors have been that he’ll sign a new contract with the Knicks starting next year. The rumors have arisen because it’s become apparent James has not been satisfied in Cleveland as his team has never won a championship which he desperately wants, and although James tries to stay away from the topic of leaving Cleveland as much as possible, subtle comments made by James lead people to believe he will be coming to the Knicks next season.
In a recent interview with Lebron he said he loved playing in New York and is disappointed the Cavs only get to visit them once a year. Rumors of Lebron heading to New York are also fueled by his friendship with rapper Jay-Z who is a part owner of the Knicks, and the fact that the Knicks currently have an expendable team and a huge amount of money their willing to give away to sign a new superstar.
The Cavaliers acquired center Shaquille O’Neal in the offseason as a reason to keep Lebron in Cleveland, showing their willing to do whatever they can to give him a winning team, but there is still a high probability Lebron will not return to Cleveland next season.
