Last night the Utah Jazz beat the San Antonio Spurs 113-99. The Jazz who were playing at home were able to keep the lead throughout the game, even when it was as little as three points at the half, the Jazz never let up. The San Antonio Spurs, who were already a strong team as they won the NBA championship in 2006 and still have most of the players from that team, became even stronger by acquiring Richard Jefferson who’s been an all-star forward for the New Jersey Nets.
However, even though the Spurs were heavily favored to win the game, the Jazz were able to pull out their second win at home. Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer, both all-stars for the Jazz each put up 27 points against the Spurs. Meanwhile the Spurs all-star forward Tim Duncan was held to only 15 points, with guard Tony Parker being the high scorer for the team at 21. The Jazz record for the new year is 2-3, while the Spurs aren’t much ahead now at 2-2. Spurs are currently 6th overall in the western conference while the Jazz are 4 spots behind at 10th. This is a big win for the Jazz, as their last loss was a disaster against the Houston Rockets on the road, so a win at home is a big moral boost for this team.
