After a great 10 year career with the Philadelphia Phillies, starting pitcher Brett Myers packed his bags for Jacksonville, FL late Friday afternoon. While it was not easy for Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. to break the news to Myers, he had to inform him that the Phillies would not be resigning him for the 2010 season.
Although Myers was willing to sign a one-year incentive laden deal with the team prior to hearing the news, he had a feeling that the Phillies would not be interested.
Hesitant to leave the Phillies at first, Myers respected the team’s decision. Myers said "It's always tough when you have to leave your family behind, and I consider the Phillies family."
After packing his bags on Friday, Myers made it clear that there were no hard feelings after Amaro broke the news to him. "I know it's a business," Myers said. "They were honest with me from the beginning and that's all I can ask for.”
Myers unsure of what team he will play for next, is headed back to his hometown in Jacksonville to spend time with his family until he gets another contract offer.
