Chelsea Gillis is a sibling of two from Hudson New Hampshire right outside of Boston Massachusetts. When Gillis was deciding what universities to apply to further her education, UT was a last minute decision. Not long after applying to UT, Gillis received an acceptance letter. Gillis decided it was time to get out of her small town in New Hampshire. She explained” she just wanted to get away” and Tampa, Florida was where she wanted to be.
Coming in as a freshman Gillis had no idea what major she wanted to declare her first year. She knew that The John Sykes School of Business was well known but was not sure if a business major was something she wanted to pursue. As a sophomore, she explored a few more majors and decided nursing would be her next best bet, but after taking a few introduction courses for nursing she knew she was not fit to be a nurse. She said “even my classmates were saying they could not see me in the Nursing Field.”
Gillis now going into her junior year explained “I had to really bare down and choose a major that would benefit and interest me for a career.” Chelsea heard of career services on campus and wanted to receive some guidance for picking a major. Career services told Chelsea to take a personality test online that would help her better decide what her passion was. After taking the test, Gillis realized an Advertising and Public Relations major interested her. She said, “After taking a few introduction courses I really think this is what I want do with my life.” Chelsea plans to graduate with a degree in Advertising and Public Relations in hopes of working for a big PR firm in New York City.
