Rick Reilly formerly of Sports Illustrated and now writing for ESPN the Magazine.

I know you used him for the example, but he is the only columnist I ever actually read on a semi-consistent basis (When he wrote for SI).

  6. I guess I like Blake Snow. I don't really read enough to have any favorites and if not for this assignment I definitely wouldn't have stumbled accross this guy, Blake Snow.

He writes columns for Gamepro, CNN, Joystiq, msnbc and others. According to his blog (Smooth Harold) he's a new media expert and journalist who began freelance writing in 2004.

Although he's got his fingers in other pies as well, the video game-related columns are what really interested me. His opinions are supported with detail and embellished with mild sarcasm.

When I first looked at this reflection topic, I thought to myself "do I even know the name of any columnist?" Then as I thought about it, one name stood out and popped up in my head. Bill Simmons, an ESPN columnist, is by far one of my favorite writers. As a sports lover, I tend to read articles on ESPN every day and the one name that I see over and over again is Bill Simmons. His great leads and use of humor with facts make his pieces entertaining to read, which is why he's my favorite columnist/reporter.

Ruth Laferla writes fashion columns for the New York Times. This article she concentrates on the Oscars fashion for 2010.

I enjoy her work because it does not just focus on particular designers or styles but also about issues that are going on in the fashion world.

  10. I don't have a specific columnist I follow but so this is kind of general,

David Zinczenko he is editor and chief of Men's Health and has written a few books, on fitness, nutrition, and relationships of which excerpts often get put into columns.
